Barrie's Fall Shoe Report |

Every year when our Fall shoes start coming in I get this odd feeling. It’s not surprise exactly – I mean, I know they’re coming – it’s just that they always begin arriving right after I’ve spent the last month buying shoes for next Spring and thinking about nothing else. Then all these great Fall shoes I ordered last December start getting unpacked and it’s like, “Oh yeah! I love that shoe!”
Yes, it’s all coming back to me now. So here’s the scoop on the styles I was so excited about all those months ago and that are just now being shipped. (Sorry I don’t have many photos yet! We will soon.) |
| Boots & Shoe Boots |
In my mind at least, the biggest designer trend for Fall is BOOTS and most especially SHOE BOOTS (or "booties" or "shoe booties") with shafts ankle height or lower. Practically all our designers were showing them so you’ll see a great variety of silhouettes, and of materials and colors, with heels from low to high, thick to thin. On the runways they were being put together with short skirts and tights or long tunic tops and skinny jeans. We bought them from Tory Burch (see below), Prada, Gucci, Donald J Pliner, Pedro Garcia, Michael Kors, Kors, Taryn Rose, Marc, Stuart Weitzman (of course) and Prada Sport. |
| Tory Burch "Leigh" & "Mary" |
Two of my very top Fall favorites are both from Tory Burch – still the biggest designer out there, by the way. One is a bootie in black croco patent (the “Leigh”) on about a half inch platform and stacked heel with a gold rand. Gorgeous. The other is a knee-high front zipped boot in crinkled patent (the “Mary”), which has the same stacked heel as the Leigh. I don’t think Tory Burch has lost any momentum at all. We bought their new flats in SO many colors and materials – suede, patent, printed patent, animal prints, mixed materials and on and on.

| Gucci Grommets |
Also in my top ten (or twenty, or thirty – I keep changing my mind) is the “grommet” series from Gucci. They’re knee-high boots, shoe boots, strappy sandals, pumps and you name it, in nappa, patent, suede, etc., all with gold or silver embedded metal studs. Metal is another big trend all over the market but I think Gucci really 'nailed it' with these. |
| Other strong shoe trends? |

Look at toes – they’re generally pointier than last year, more almond shaped, less rounded. That goes for almost everybody from Christian Louboutin to Stuart Weitzman. |
Very bold, intense colors. |
Oxford brogues, sometimes as shoe boots. |
Gladiators, usually with somewhat wider straps. |
Mary Jane's |
Wedges & flip-flops still big. |
| Hottest NEW LINE |
| Golden Goose Cowboy Boots. A really beautiful make, in both high and low shafts. It’s an Italian line made with leather naturally aged through a unique “stressing” technique. They’re on the high end but worth it. |
| Hottest "NEW " Designer: LANVIN |
Actually, in the case of Lanvin 'new' means founded in 1889, which makes it the oldest of all the French couture houses. The name had sort of faded over the years but as soon as they brought in Alber Elbaz as Artistic Director the comeback started, and now Lanvin is THE new collection. The house signature had always been classic elegance and refinement - never trendy, very sophisticated. Elbaz preserves the tradition and still manages to look totally modern. We'll have Lanvin apparel, handbags, shoes and jewelry.

| Fall merchandise is coming in pretty much daily now. We'll get it on the web site as fast as we can photograph it, but in the mean time we'd really rather see you in the store anyway, if you're in town. (We can't serve chilled wine through the website. They tell me it's still technically impractical.) |
Check back here in a couple of weeks and I'll tell you all about what's coming for Spring. See you soon! |
